Job Description

To act as the Well Operations champion to guide and provide expert support to the onshore and offshore Well Operations teams in the design and execution of complex trajectory well interventions and advanced carbonate reservoir stimulations.  Responsible to monitor, evaluate and design Well Operations activities including reservoir surveillance, production testing, well integrity diagnostics, preventative maintenance, reservoir stimulation, scale removal, water and gas shut off and numerous other key activities required during the life cycle of a well. To work closely with all engineers within the Well Operations group to provide expert operational and technical support to the field or wells assigned, including rig based activity when required. Provides HSE leadership in all aspects of Well Servicing, Interventions and Operations.

Ensures that Company HSE Policies, Procedures, Regulations and Objectives are effectively implemented.

Ensures compliance at the well site for well integrity and program adherence.

Provides expert technical advice to the Well Delivery Process (WDP) for the planning and design of new ‘Extended Reach’ wells drilled from both artificial islands and offshore wellhead platforms, ensuring full consideration is given to future well access, reservoir management and well integrity requirements during the life cycle of a well.

Researches new technologies available in the industry to enhance serviceability of both complex trajectory wells and existing well stock through interaction with service providers and participation in applicable forums.

Leads feasibility studies to assess introducing new technologies and techniques to enhance company asset performance, leading the entire process from identification of an opportunity to execution of pilot studies and full implementation.

Provides input and support where required to well and production optimization, completion design by working closely with Reservoir and Production Engineers, Well Operations Supervisors, Drilling and Completion Engineers, and across multidiscipline and multifunctional teams.

Leads the reviews all complex well programs assigned and provides expert oversight and assurance to ensure that high quality programs are issued to Operations Team.

Evaluates front end engineering requirements to meet future Well Operations intervention needs ensuring that adequate notice is provided to WO contractors and suppliers by respecting potential lead times of equipment, materials and spare parts.

Performs periodic site visits to ensure operations are being carried out in accordance with Company Policies and Procedures and in line with industry Best Practices.

Performs independent planning and prioritization of WO team’s activities in co-ordination with reservoir, drilling and sites teams, ensuring that the wells’ optimum integrity conditions and their availability for production /injection are primary focus.

Introduces new ideas and technologies, provides expertise in the function to achieve required performance standards.

Responsible for ensuring Well Operation programs and cost estimates are provided in a timely manner for all operations assigned.

Performs duties in accordance with broad direction, Company’s Policies and Procedures and Senior Management directives.

Responsible to maintain line manager updated on work schedule and progress.

Drives continuous improvement within the Well Operations Engineering Team through interrogation of ‘After Action Reviews’, capturing ‘Lessons Learned’ and disseminating across the WO teams.

Identifies gaps and opportunities to reduce costs and increase efficiency.

Performs all Well Operations Engineering activities in alignment with the Well Delivery Process (WDP).

Works in conjunction with all stakeholders in the preparation of annual activity bar chart.

Fulfills all requirements of Company Commercial Processes, including preparation of Invitation to Tender documents, high quality Work Scopes and Service Orders and participates in bid evaluations where required.

Cooperates with Drilling and Completions engineers, Field Development engineers and Operations personnel to optimize field development strategies.

Develops cost estimates and performs benchmarking exercises. 

Participates in incident classification, investigation and reporting.

Creates and maintains a zero accident and incident culture within the Well Operations Team.

Supports Well Operations Management in identifying opportunities for staff technical development.

Performs the role of Subject Matter Expert (SME) for one or more core Well Operations disciplines participating in the evaluation of training material and providers to enhance the teams capabilities.

Relieves the Well Operations Management Team as and when required.

Provides onshore technical support for each Well Operations activity assigned.

Registers all Well Operations NCRs (Non Conformance Reports) and ensures close outs through close follow up with contractors.

Verifies contractor procedures for Well Operations activities.

Leads Contractor Performance Reviews when required.

Participates and leads periodic service company audits.

Guides, directs, trains and develops all personnel to perform to their best potential, and work effectively together as a team. Contributes actively to the Emiratization process.

 

Minimum Qualification



Bachelor Degree in an Engineering Discipline, ideally Petroleum or Mechanical Engineering.

For Bachelors, minimum 20 years’ experience, for Masters, minimum 15 years’ experience and for PhD minimum 10 years’ experience in petroleum engineering activities related to well operations, well services and intervention, and at least 5 years of offshore related work.

Significant experience in carbonate reservoir stimulation.

Strong knowledge of Well Engineering in complex trajectory applications.

Computing competence with modelling software such as Nodal Analysis, Tubing Forces and Hydraulics, Production / Injection and Stimulation Modelling in addition to proficiency in MS Office applications.

Leadership and safety training (Desirable).

Basic Safety Training

Offshore Survival certificate (preferred)

IWCF Well Intervention certification (preferred).

Membership of Leading Petroleum/Drilling Societies an advantage.
